While the name is a bit of a mouth full, the products are well worth the time it takes to type in... or at least copy paste.
It seemed silly to me to buy a product marketed as a "trekking umbrella". But here's the thing, whether you use it for that or not this is an entirely different level of product. Like eons beyond your store bought umbrella. Basically everything on their website is true but I'll give you my bullet points here.
-YES it is actually made of almost all flexible strong materials. Very little metal is used and that does NOT make it cheap. They use high grade products that are designed and utilized to bend and stuff into and do whatever awful things you do to this umbrella without it breaking or deforming.
-It telescopes out a third farther than any normal umbrella handle does with the extra extension. Now this is actually designed to clip to your backpack and hover above you with no hands for shade or rain protection all day long and that system works pretty well! The only short comings I have found is pretty obviously if you're going through anything brushy it will catch and tend to spin the canopy often loosening the extension bars. So be aware of where it is appropriate to use and where it is not. But in general it does what it was designed to do VERY well! Now for the average person thinking "I don't need a trekking umbrella that's twice the price." you should know that this will be the last one you need for years. The extension is handy for normal use so you don't have to do that dumb thing with your elbow holding it up and after 20 minutes you're like "Man my arm is cramped, I'm so tired of carrying this umbrella!". You can hold it at arms length perfectly comfortably.
-Warrenty. Pretty standard, but these guys stand behind their products. I had an issue two years out that was a manufacturers issue and they without hesitation wanted to make sure I knew I was a valued customer and they offered a quality product. It's smooth operating, strong and simply beautifully designed.
Mine is the reflective silver as I use it in the summer for desert hikes and beach time to shade from the sun. Pro Tip: It is actually a pretty great photoshoot reflector too :P I actually use it more for sun than rain as I'm a true Portlander so rain coats are the tool of choice when dealing weather. And I am sure the other colors and/or coatings are equally sturdy but mine is such a strong material and hasn't aged a bit in 2 years, no cracking, no peeling of the silver, NOTHING!
So while some may think this is a little overboard I say in a world filled with disposable goods made to last just as long as they want it to until they want you to buy a new one, invest in a smaller company making quality goods that will last a good long time with ACTual real world conditions. They make tons of products and for the size and strength you get with this specific version it's amazing it still compacts down to a tight medium sized packaging. Go get um Birdiepal!! Thank you for the great product and service.
Here is there website. I was able to find mine on Amazon for between 60 and 80 dollars but I wouldn't hesitate to order directly from the company. Happy shade and rain protection hunting! SO many options!
