It's hard to even explain how innovative and yet simply this has been pulled off.
To start, Live Photos by Apple was an amazing advancement in how pictures are captured, viewed and shared. The release of this technology however had some undeniable drawbacks. It was shaky and hard to utilize after the fact. If you didn't specifically plan to use a Live Photo as such it was hard to ever find one that didn't start or end with the camera in your pocket or hand or a swift blur of the screen as you moved to the next shot. The shots stitched together were inconsistent and generally not an appealing experience you wanted to share with anyone let alone upload to social media. Lest we forget to mention that they also didn't give you any real way to export them outside the Apple ecosystem as a gif or video without a third party app.
Motion Still by Google was the last thing I expected. Google making my iphone even better? And on top of that with a feature that I had been very excited about initially and let down by. This takes that digital info and makes some sense of it. I'm not saying it's perfect but the algorithms that they have created to process these images is pretty slick. And even at times creates unexpected effects that can be fun and entertaining. At best though it shines in larger space photos with some room to level out our shaky hands. Beautifully stitching a streetscape as cars zoom by or a fun 360 of an object you were circling as you clicked away.
While it may be TOO simple there is something to be said for software that does something right without a lot of bells and whistles. And while some customization would inherently be amazing it is ALready giving you something usable out of what was mostly unusable extra imagery before taking up a LOT of extra space in your storage.
It won't take you long to figure out how to archive unwanted images, make a movie and export to save or send. Intuitive, clean and not a lot of fluff... way to go Google for always trying to improve the digital world one idea at a time not matter how big or small.

With Apple's announcement of new features at WWDC it sounds like they will be integrating this type of feature into iOS. We will have to wait and see if it's as seamless and enjoyable as this Google experience.
